INNOVATION IN PLANT PROTECTION

As our world population grows, increased and sustainable food production is critical, even more so amid the multiple obstacles of climate change and the need to preserve our natural environment. Our global challenge is to create agricultural systems that will not only feed this generation, but that will also feed every generation to come.

Toward this goal, AgriTitan LLC was founded to discover and develop environmentally friendly crop protection products. Our focus is on the highest performance photocatalyst-based plant protection, and our work over the years has resulted in innovative, patented, natural products with greenhouse and field-proven efficacy and sustainability.

Our flagship patented product, AgriTitan™, utilizes our inventive application of the most advanced photocatalytic mineral chemistry to degrade foliar bacteria, viruses, fungi, and associated toxins on plants. The unique Mode of Action of light-powered AgriTitan™ provides excellent broad-spectrum plant protection, demonstrated in multiple agricultural field experiments with high value crops (see Healthy Plants).

AgriTitan™ is a transparent photocatalyst composed of environmentally friendly, naturally occurring, precisely engineered inorganic elements: titanium dioxide and zinc. It does not inhibit plant growth or interfere with the light absorption that powers photosynthesis. When illuminated, AgriTitan™ generates highly-localized oxidants on plant surfaces that are proven exceptionally effective against multiple microbial disease challenges (see Healthy Plants).

In addition to powerful protection from microbial plant disease, AgriTitan™’s unique and superior performance mineral photochemistry provides other vital environmental and sustainability benefits not available with conventional pesticides.

First, unlike most conventional plant pesticides such as copper salts, AgriTitan™ has no adverse effects to the soil microbiome that is so critical to plant health (see Healthy Soil). The light-powered antimicrobial activity of AgriTitan™ occurs only on the illuminated plant leaves, stems and trunks; in the darkness of soil, the active ingredients of AgriTitan™ are photocatalytically inert, and are simply common minerals naturally found in native soils all around our planet. In fact, the mineral active ingredients of AgriTitan™ can act as natural biostimulants to enhance plant growth.

Second, the patented, high-efficiency photocatalytic chemistry of AgriTitan™ reduces harmful atmospheric pollutants, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as methane, sulfur dioxide, ozone and multiple oxides of nitrogen. Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a very potent greenhouse gas, and about 75% of the nitrous oxide emissions in the US are emitted from agricultural fields.

AgriTitan™ applied to crops provides a large photocatalytic area close to the source of N2O emission, where its concentration is highest. This facilitates the localized recycling of N2O to nitrate. The atmospheric pollutant NOx (formed from engine combustion and other processes) is also converted to nitrate. Nitrate is a water soluble fertilizer that is mobilized by rain, dew, or irrigation, and is taken up by both leaves and roots to support plant growth (see Healthy Planet ).

Consequently, this photocatalytic nitrogen oxidation mechanism both mitigates nitrogen oxide gases in the atmosphere and simultaneously provides a source of fertilizer. This provides real value that adds to the major crop protection benefit of AgriTitan™.

Our technology uniquely provides multiple benefits, all from a single product. AgriTitan™ offers broad spectrum crop disease protection, enhances fertilizer inputs, supports the integrity of soil ecosystems and amendments, and diminishes greenhouse gas emissions.

AgriTitan LLC has demonstrated expertise in the synthesis, manufacture, application, and validation of this breakthrough approach to preventing plant diseases and is interested in further research and development through license or technology transfer.
